Georgia Boating Rules, Regulations, & Responsibilities
Before operating any vessel on Georgia waters, we strongly encourage all renters and passengers to familiarize themselves with current Georgia boating laws, navigation rules, and on-water safety responsibilities. The official Georgia Boating Handbook contains important information regarding vessel operation, boating safety, required equipment, right-of-way rules, towing regulations, life jacket laws, and Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GA DNR) requirements.
At Aqua Sports Adventures, we believe informed boaters are safer boaters. Whether you are an experienced captain or enjoying a day on the water for the first time, understanding these laws and safety guidelines helps protect you, your passengers, and everyone sharing the lake.
Mandatory Georgia Boater Education
Under Georgia law, effective July 1, 2014, any person born on or after January 1, 1998, who operates a motorized vessel on Georgia waters must successfully complete a Georgia DNR-approved boater education course prior to operation.
Exceptions may apply for:
- Individuals licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard as a vessel master
- Operators on private lakes or ponds
- Non-residents who possess proof of completing a NASBLA-approved boating safety course or equivalency exam from another state
Please review the official Georgia Boating Handbook below for complete laws, safety guidance, and operational requirements before your rental. Additional information may also be found through the Georgia DNR Boating Rules & Regulations Page
